Tornado Relief — North St. Louis County

May 19, 2011 — Thank you, St. Louis, for your strong support following the recent tornado disaster in the North County area! Your generous response exceeded anything Service International (SI) has ever encountered in a disaster relief operation, both nationally and abroad.

Although SI has closed its base of operations at Grace Church and is no longer taking volunteers or requests for assistance, work continues as heavy equipment removes debris too heavy for individuals to carry. Currently, SI is providing another area relief group with a trailer, water, tools and equipment for ongoing tornado relief work projects in other areas of St. Louis. Requests for assistance should be directed to FEMA at 1-800-621-3362, or call your local municipality.

Because of the selfless efforts of our volunteers, SI was able to clear debris from over 300 home sites in SI's assigned area of responsibility—Bridgeton and Maryland Heights. We are proud to report that Service International has coordinated more than 5700 volunteers with willing hearts and hands to help the victims of this devastating tornado disaster.

In addition to the huge outpouring of volunteers, SI has received financial contributions to fund the immense task of recovery in the hardest hit area of North St. Louis County. We sincerely appreciate the contributions from St. Louis Family Church, Joyce Meyer Ministries, Grace Church-St Louis, St. Johnís Lutheran Church, Church On The Rock, Watlow, and Home Depot. Thanks also to the many individuals who contributed to the recovery work from their own resources.

A special thanks to our host, Grace Church-St Louis. Pastor Ron Tucker gave SI the use of the church parking lot without hesitation so that SI's Tornado Base of Operations could immediately be set up close to the devastation. Throughout our disaster relief operations, the Grace staff and members graciously extended hospitality to Honor God and Help People. Thank you!
